Our story

One building, three names.

An old coaching house on the Annan Road at the Crossways roundabout. It has been the Crossways Inn and The Gretna Inn, and since 2026 it's The Border Tavern.

The dining room: dark wood tables, tartan carpet and stained glass panels above the booths

Crossways, Gretna Inn, Border Tavern.

  1. 01

    The Crossways Inn

Named for the Crossways roundabout it stands on, where the Annan Road meets the way to the motorway and the outlet village.

  2. 02

    The Gretna Inn

For years it traded as The Gretna Inn, the name many drivers and outlet shoppers still know it by.

  3. 03

    The Border Tavern, 2026

In 2026 it became The Border Tavern, run by Iain Broughton with a new brewery behind it. The two bars, the five rooms and the kitchen are as they were.

The lounge bar: cream panelled counter with a brass rail, lamps and tankards hung above

The inn today.

The dining room
Pub food from our own kitchen, every day of the week.
Five rooms upstairs
All en suite with Sky TV. Dogs are welcome.

The town around us.

Gretna was built during the First World War to house the workers at HM Factory Gretna, Britain's largest cordite factory. The Devil's Porridge Museum at Eastriggs tells that story.

Closer to home, the Famous Blacksmiths Shop at Gretna Green is five minutes away, the outlet village is across the roundabout, and the Solway Firth is a five-minute walk.
